The Paleo Diet is awesome.

I don’t see myself switching to any other way of eating in the future. I frequently recommend Paleo to anyone wanting to get lean or just improve their overall health and wellbeing.

One of the best things about this style of eating is that there are literally thousands of different recipes you can make and enjoy. Sticking to the ‘rules’ really isn’t difficult at all.

In this post I will highlight some of my favorite paleo snacks as people quite often ask what kind of things you are supposed to be eating between meals. These snack ideas have mainly come from looking around other great Paleo websites and trying out anything I liked the look of; credit is given to the relevant sites where relevant.

Delicious Paleo Snack Recipes

Here are some quick and easy snack recipes – great if you are a fan of ‘grazing’ throughout the day :)

1. Mixed Fruit Salad

Fruits are certainly allowed on the Paleo Diet; they are an excellent source of vitamins and antioxidents. Try and eat a wide range of seasonal fruits, locally sourced where possible. Keep in mind that if you are specifically trying to lose body fat on the Paleo Diet then you may want to limit fruit intake – this due to the high sugar content. Fruits affect everyone differently so if you are having trouble losing weight then cutting back back can be a good idea.

What you put in a fruit salad is really up to you – there is no specific ‘recipe’ to follow. My favorites are all kinds of berries, especially blueberries and raspberries. All fruit is allowed on Paleo though.

2. Chocolate Covered Bacon – Thanks to PaleoDietLifestyle.com

What? How can chocolate and bacon be healthy?!

The good news is that it is. Bacon is a great source of protein and healthy fats, dark chocolate (as dark as possible) is certainly fine as well in moderation. Dark chocolate is actually quite a strong antioxidant.

To make this tasty Paleo snack you first need to fry your bacon until crisp and then dry it off so the surface is not too slippery with fat. 1lb of dark chocolate pieces should be melted with 4 tablespoons of organic butter or ghee in a bowl – now just dip the bacon into your chocolate mix and leave to cool for a couple of hours until the chocolate hardens. What a great snack!

3. Steve’s Original Paleo Kits – Visit StevesOriginal.com

These are pre-packaged Paleo snacks which are actually healthy.

If you are looking for something quick and easy to carry around on trips where you may not have access to good food then these Paleo Packs can be a god-send.

There are all kinds of nut, fruit and meat based snack options – quite a nice selection really. The ingredients used are top-notch and of course, all Paleo friendly.

3. Devilled Eggs With Goats Cheese, Onion And Bacon – Thanks to HealthBent.com

This is a delicious take on the ever popular devilled eggs.

These eggs are a great Paleo snack idea and can be whipped up in no time at all. The cheese really tops things off for me, although next time I think I’ll use some extra strong Cheddar instead :)

Head over to HealthBent to see the full recipe and instructions.

4. Smoked Salmon

Salmon is a very healthy snack and buying high quality, smoked pieces gives you a quick and easy bite to eat that takes no time at all to prepare.

Adding some sliced tomato and mixed salad also makes a lovely little meal that quickly fills a whole if you are getting hungry. As far as Paleo Diet snack ideas go, this is definitely one of the healthiest you could choose. Smoked salmon is also delicious as a bonus!

5. Almond Butter

I literally eat this stuff out of the jar.

It is a far superior choice to peanut butter in my opinion but not many people seem to eat it. Almond butter isn’t too widely available but can be bought very cheaply online.

A couple of spoonfulls will keep you going for a couple of hours in most cases. Watch out though – almong butter is high in calories and very easy to over indulge on!

6. Paleo Trail Mix – Thanks to NomNomPaleo.com

Trail mix is a super quick and convenient snack once you have made a batch – simply grab a handful. It provides a good number of calories so can act as a nice little energy boost if you feel you need one before the next full meal.

This particular Paleo trail mix recipe tastes great. The coconut and pineapple combinations is what really does it for me. The other ingredients are sunflower seeds, almonds and pumpkin seeds.

You only need a few minutes top to make the recipe, which makes it even more appealing. See how to make it here!

7. Paleo Protein Power Balls! – Thanks to CavemanStrong.com

Yes, these really are as good as they sound!

These power balls are an excellent Paleo snack to keep in the fridge for when you get peckish, or if you need to make sure your target protein intake for the day is hit.

Protein balls don’t even need to be cooked either, just mix the ingredients together and chill them in the fridge – find the full recipe and directions here.

Standard ingredients for this reciple are honey, protein powder, some kind of nut butter, vanilla, nuts, cocoa and shredded coconut. You can really tweak the recipe to your own tastes though and add in whatever Paleo ingredients you like – such a simple snack recipe!

8. Avocado Crunch – Thanks to CleanEatsInTheZoo.com

This is a great way to  get some healthy fats inside you without preparing a full meal. The Avocado Crunch is a lovely little snack idea and actually provides a good number of calories; it can keep you full for a while :)

The only ingredients you need are avocado, salt and pepper, chilli powder, lemon juice and almonds. No cooking needed – just chop the nuts and avocado and mix everything together in a bowl.

See the link above for quantities and a full recipe.
